The fight between the Friday, 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street over which horror movie series is best has been transposed on the big screens in one of the most exciting horror experiments: Freddy vs. Jason. Featuring two of the most feared American villains, the movie presents the story of a weaken Freddy Krueger who has gone to Hell and has no means of coming back because nobody is afraid of him anymore.

In Hell he meets Jason Voorhees, another cast away villain whom he resurrects and sends to Earth to terrorize the community from Elm Street, hoping this way his potential victims will remember him and start to be afraid of him, thus giving his powers back.

Yet, plans do not always materialize in the wanted direction and Jason becomes from ally enemy when he starts taking Freddy’s victims. Then, it is no longer about killing people, but rather killing one another and gaining recognition as the most powerful villain ever.

The confrontation between the two is a spectacular one, in which both characters try to take advantage of the other’s weaknesses. It is the ultimate confrontation of evil whose winner is left ambiguous. The meaning of this unclear final is that both villains are equally bad. Yet, Freddy and Kruger’s fans maintain the debate open.

It will be a competition about who recreates the costume in a more authentic manner. The first thing you will have to look for is the red and dark green sweater. You can even choose a red and black one if there is no way you could find a red and green one. Once you have the sweater take a pair of scissors and start tattering the collar, the lower edge and the cuffs to make it look old and worn out. Also, you can take some mud, ash or some dark colorant and make some dark stains on the sweater for a more authentic look.

Purchase a pair of black trousers or use one you no longer wear and do the same as with the sweater. Remember that your goal is to have a grubby and scary look, so that you can get as close to Freddy’s looks as possible. Once you have the main outfit pieces it is time to consider the details. First, purchase an old brown fedora and, using sandpaper, make it look old and worn too. Polish the edges and its middle for an authentic Freddy look.

The piece du résistance in a Freddy Krueger costume is by far his signature weapon: the bladed glove. You can purchase it from a costume store or you can do it by yourself. It can be easily recreated by using an old glove (preferably a leather one) to which you cut the fingers and some metal spikes from a broken umbrella. Glue the spike to each one of the glove’s fingers and you will have an awesome Freddy glove without spending a fortune on it. You can also use plastic or wooden spikes, but they would not look as good as the metal ones.

The last thing you will need to take care of is the face. For covering your face with wounds and scars there are two possibilities: the Freddy mask, which is very comfortable and easy to put on (recommended to those who like the easy way out) or the make-up which usually takes more time and needs professional hand to work on it. This planet is swarming with movie fans. I don’t care where you live or where you visit, you’re bound to find tons of people who love cinema.
